Piglet is a Chihuahua/Dachshund mix whose parents have been found. When two dogs of this color mate, the pup has a 25 percent chance of being “double-dappled,” and the pup is often partially or completely “blind and deaf.
” Piglet is one of them, completely “blind and deaf”, but that doesn’t stop him. Piglet got his name from his pale pink body color when he was a puppy. He is a beautiful and adorable dog, but he has special needs and needed a family to give him extra care and love.
Piglet was found along with 37 other puppies at a day care center in Georgia. He was then transferred to Connecticut, where he met veterinarian Melissa Shapiro. Shapiro initially intended to keep Piglet together, but she soon fell in love with him. After she took him in for just two months, she realized he was hers.
Shapiro already had six dogs, and she was happy to add one more. At first, caring for piglets felt like a full-time job. He was devoted to Shapiro and would scream whenever he got scared, but that was most of the time. If Shapiro left home, he would suffer from extreme separation anxiety, to the point that he could not even leave Shapiro alone for his first month.
After spending several months in her forever home, Piglet got used to her routine and became more comfortable in her new surroundings. He likes playing with his siblings, taking walks, and traveling with Shapiro on business. He refused to let his own strange desires get in the way of a happy dog life.
When his third-grade teacher in Plainville, Massachusetts, heard Piglet’s story, he knew he had to tell his kids. She talked about Piglet’s positivity and how she helped him overcome obstacles. He also encourages children to embrace and celebrate differences.
Children use Piglets to support their developmental psyche. Therefore, they try to maintain a “piglet mindset” and when faced with difficulties ask themselves “what would a piglet do?” The youngsters regularly send Piglet hand-drawn cards, and both Shapiro and Piglet are delighted.
Piglet inspires humans and dogs alike, encourages adoption, and works diligently to bring joy to people around the world. Shapiro and Piglet will continue to help and inspire others next time.
