What is dog tracing?

Every pet owner will inform you that certain pets are simply funny. Certain quirks can be observed in not only your dog but in many canines. The act of tripping, also known as ‘ghost walking or ‘weed walking can be uncomfortable when first observed by the owner. It’s described by a variety of pet owners.

What is Trancing?

The term “trance” refers to the way a dog will slowly and slowly stroll under the curtains, tablecloths, foliage, and so on. so that the object they are walking on barely touches them. Or, in other instances, the dog may become frozen and seem “in a euphoric state.” If you’ve never witnessed this before, and your dog is beginning to do it in the house, it might be quite a bit frightening to observe. They walk so slowly that it’s like you were trying to steal something, and they are trying not to make any sound. They appear to also be in a trance-like state, hence the name “trancing”.

Trancing is often seen in bull Terriers and some internet sources assert that it is exclusive to the breed. A quick search of videos of dogs trances however will swiftly disprove that claim since there are many other breeds of dogs that have tranced as their owners recorded it live.

Although it’s a popular belief that Bull Terriers are trancers however, this isn’t the case at all. A Bull Terrier could be more likely to trance than a different breed of dog, but this doesn’t mean that the Bull Terrier is a guaranteed trancer and that a dog breed can be guaranteed not to trance.

Are you able to detect a certain type of Seizure?

When they see a dog trance in the very first instance might think it’s something like specific seizures. In some instances, it could be the case in the event of an underlying medical issue. There are some crucial signs that will help determine whether this is an indication of seizures. Dogs that are actively taking a trance cannot be taken out of the situation by asking their name or simply a simple recall request. If a dog is trancing but even when they’re in an “deep” trance they will at the very least give some kind of response to a call to name or recall request even if it’s an ear wiggle to be able to hear you better. Trancing dogs will appear normal both before as well as after an event and dogs with seizures typically do not appear normal prior to and following the episode.

A few owners of dogs who trance think that their dog is enjoying this strange behavior and that when they break off from their stupor they appear to be annoyed to have their time reduced to a minimum. Trancing shows, when not interrupted, last only for a couple of minutes, and after the dog is finished then they go back returning to normal joyful tail-wagging, happy selves. This is in stark contrast to when a dog recovering from an epileptic seizure. Dogs who suffer from seizures, even after the seizure is over and they’re no longer actively seizing, could require hours before they are completely returned to their normal. When your pet suddenly begins walking around later in life, and the duration of episodes increases the frequency, these are important things to inform your vet.

Do you think that a Behavioral Disorder is being detected?

Some owners may be concerned that trancing could be or is a disorder of the mind or a precursor to disorders like obsessive-compulsive disorder. The fears of these owners could be strengthened by the fact that Bull Terriers are among the breeds that is associated with trancing, is also susceptible to OCD behaviors such as tail chase. A group known as BT Neuro, however, in 2004, surveyed a number of Bull Terrier owners to see whether there was any connection between trancing and tail-chasing and could not discover any. If you’re Bull Terrier trances but don’t chase tails the fact that they do trance doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll begin tail chasing later on. In some dogs, the act of trance is an addictive behavior, and these can be affected by specific behavioral changes that include more enrichment activities like foods, puzzles and interactive toys, and even more exercise.

Do you think that tracing is the snout of Learned Behaviour?

What happens if you own one of your dogs that trances at your home and you would like to bring another dog into your family? Trancing is something that could be learned and mastered. We have little about the reason the reasons why dogs trance initially, but certain owners of multi-dog homes have observed that their dogs who aren’t trancing begin to trance when they watch another dog in the house repeatedly display the behavior. The dog that is new may have a trance in the same place that the previous dog tranced under however, most of the time the dog that is tranced under will meditate under a particular object (like an indoor plant or another kind of) and another dog would prefer to trance under the completely different object (like curtains made of fabric or beads).

Trancing, though it is a strange trait for a dog it is really only a characteristic. It is evident that in most instances, trancing isn’t life risky, and isn’t often a precursor to an obsessive-compulsive disorder. If you see your dog trancing, go ahead and let them play!
