NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A man was charged with animal cruelty after allegedly killing his neighbor’s dog with a shovel.
According to Metro Police, officers responded to the victim’s residence in regard to a neighbor calling concerned about hearing a woman cry, saying her dog was dead.
When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with the victim who stated she was sleeping when she heard a banging noise and a dog yelping.
The victim told police she went outside where she found her dog dead. She told police the suspect, 38-year-old Leangelo Ramey, told her he killed the dog.
Metro Police say officers spoke with the victim’s 16-year-old son who was also sleeping during the incident. He also told officers he heard the noise and the dog yelping. The victim’s son said the dog was found dead underneath a five-gallon bucket.
The victim’s son told police Ramey hit the dog in the head multiple times with the broken end of the shovel, leaving some of the dog’s hair still on the shovel.
