It’s not unusual for things to wash up on the shore.
If you were to stroll down a beach today, you’d be highly likely to see bits of seaweed or perhaps a dead jellyfish depending on where you are in the world.
But seeing a human corpse on the sand would certainly get your attention.
And beachgoers at Bang Saen beach in the Thailand province of Chon Buri were certainly in for a surprise when, in August 2022, they came across what appeared to be a dead body.
Given that the naked woman’s body was partially under a blanket, it’s no surprise that they quickly jumped to the worst possible conclusion.
Whilst they called the police to the scene, they kept themselves a distance from the body, fearing that it could be a murder victim.
Paramedics and officers were soon on the scene to inspect the body, but fortunately, there was no need for an autopsy.
This was not a murder victim – it was a sex doll.
The substitute was reportedly a Japanese model branded as ‘AV Idol’, estimated to cost around THB 20,000 (£469).
Police believed it had been dumped in a canal or river before making its way to sea – only to then appear on the beach and scare people half to death.
Although it’s looking a little worse for wear – especially given that her head was missing – the doll was for a time kept at the local police station, just in case anyone wants to claim their plastic partner.
I’d love to be a fly on the wall for that lost property claim.
Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time something like this has happened.
Back in May 2022, a woman stumbled upon a doll’s head on the beach in Texas – complete with barnacles coming out of it’s head.
Jace Tunnell, director of the reserve, told the Star-Telegram that he and his colleagues had collected 30 dolls since he began keeping count.
He described the creepiest ones as those that have lost all of their hair, and noted that it’s not only baby dolls that wash up on the beach, as he once also found the head of a sex doll.
“I posted a picture of it and I didn’t realise that’s what it was,” he said. “We got a lot of followers on the page after that.”
Perhaps there’s the missing head?
